The Pax 2, my shiny new toy 🙂
Hey guys, how is everyone today? Just wanted to report in on my newest toy, a Pax 2. I just made an unboxing video and took my first hit… Wowzers this little thing is something else. In a nutshell Ploom took the Pax and improved on every aspect to make it better. Firstly and most importantly, is the lack of any moving parts. My #1 complaint in regards to the Pax was the finicky mouthpiece. The Pax 2 has a petite silicone mouthpiece that works better while looking very streamlined and flat with the top of the unit. It is smaller, more efficient (cooling when you aren’t hitting it/pressing your lips on the mouthpiece), gets up to heat faster and is overall BADASS.
Pax 2 – The digital joint
This thing is our generations joint, in fact I’d like to refer to it as the digital joint as it takes all positive aspects of a joint and improves upon it. This is why I was such a fan of the first Pax is that most good strains these days are strong, we don’t need a whole joint to get medicated. In fact, more often than not a small hit or two will do the trick. With the Pax, you can pack as much as you would in a joint, about .3 and get a green tasting hit the majority of the time, at least until most of the bud is roasted.
Probably the reason the Pax is so popular is that it was designed and developed by Stanford engineering grad students and funded with VC from a major Japanese tobacco firm. Smart people, money and customer care = Great products.
I’ve had the original Pax for 2 years which is coupled with my 2 Piece Medium SpaceCase Titanium Grinder I’ve had for 5 years.
Pax 1 had issues at but the Pax 2 has remedied the mouthpiece issues, efficiency problems and looks and feel more solid. The unit, like the first – has 10 year warranty on the device. I’d like to add when I had issues with my first Pax unit, they replaced the unit promptly for free. This is huge in my book as I received a brand new unit which didn’t have the problems my initial Pax 1 did. Shipping was also prompt to the East Coast – I might add.
My favorite way to smoke cannabis is the joint because it is small, discrete direct and easy to titrate your dose. The downsides are that it is messy, harsh and a pain to put out and pick back up.
The pax functions as a digital joint as it solves these problems by it’s oven allowing the same amount someone would put in a joint ~.3 grams and you can get about 20 hits out of it. You can take a puff or two and turn it off and save it for later.
Draw technique is slow and steady and you only need to inhale for 2-3 seconds. 1-2 inhales of top shelf get’s the job done and then I press the mouthpiece a single time to power it off. It seems I can get around plenty enough of these 1-2 hit sessions in per charge for a full oven roast. It is a good habit to put it on the charger when not in use so it is always full power and ready to go.
It charges VERY fast, taking around 2 hours from the wall to fully charge. Battery life tends to last around an hour and a half as well but is highly variable depending on your preference, heat setting and how long you leave it idle.
Cleaning should be done after a few uses depending on how resinous your herb is and how much you pack in there.

Steve; I’ve never used a vaporizer before. Are these for “dried flowers/leaves” only or are they somehow used in conjunction with some of your Magic Butter machine produced potions ?
Thanks……….Ken
Steve says
Hi Ken,
The Pax is for flowers but you could supercharge it with some hash, bubble hash on top or pre-soak your bud in tincture to add extra ummmmmph.
Hope I could be of help 🙂

I’ve been using my Pax 2 a lot recently… I’m going to post up a new followup post on the device shortly.

I cant get mine to hit very well I have the yea maxed out. I pack the oven pretty much all the way. So far dissapointed in the purchase. Any pointers?
Steve says
Wow really? I get huge rips from my Pax 2, lets see if I can help you out here Justin.
1. Ensure you have top shelf meds covered in trichomes
2. Make sure your meds are fully dry, a little more dry actually helps but will make the vapor more harsh
3. Grind it good with a Space Case or the the like
4. Gently tamp the herb in with your finger but do not overstuff, just a little pressure so herb is contacting all around the oven.
5. Start on temperature 2, then work your way up to 3 then 4 as you see fit for your medical needs.
I hope this helps you out Justin as I really enjoy this device and hope you can as well.

Hi Steve,
I am having the same problem as Justin with the PAX 2. I’ve tried everything. Packed the oven all the way, finely grinded everything, fully charged it. I just got it earlier today, so I know that it is not because it is unclean, as this was happening since my very first session with it. I am very bummed out here.
It is very strange. I can smell it, feel it heating up, see that it is turning brown, but no clouds. I have been using the original PAX for almost 2 years, and I love it (got great pulls), which is why I opted to get this one.
Is there something to be done differently than the original PAX? Is it possible that Justin and I have defective units??
Thanks!
Steve says
Hi Roland,
I am sorry to hear that, if you followed what I posted to Justin and your unit isn’t giving you solid rips I would definitely hit up Ploom support. They are solid and replaced my Pax 1 when it broke.
Here is a link to a How-To guide. If you find it isn’t working click on their support/warranty section and they will be back with you the next business day. I wish you the best of luck in getting your unit up to stuff.
Please let us know how you made out Roland and have a nice day!

This device is the Iphone of vaporizers, meaning it’s a piece of garbage that gets rave reviews and then purchased 30 million times. Don’t be an idiot like me.
Steve says
Hey Donny,
Just curious, are you speaking of the Pax 1 or the Pax 2. I could definitely see how the Pax 1 can be irritating with the moving parts and problems it had. However, the Pax 2 has really been a dream to use. Also, what is wrong with iPhones man? You can’t say the iPhone 6 plus is a bad phone – even if you are an android fanboy. I’m curious man, please elaborate about the Pax and why you aren’t a fan.
Thanks Donny!

By the way, just got the iPhone 6S Plus. Best phone I had ever had. The phone is incredibly fast and the camera is so nice I sold my Sony RX100M3. Browsing is even faster if you download a .99 cent plugin called Crystal which eliminates a lot of the ads and popup bullshit in Safari. I highly recommend this app Crystal, it is dope :).
Peace and love guys hope you been well!
